Job Summary
Responsibilities:
- With limited supervision, the Defensive Coordinator is responsible to assist the Head Football Coach in recruiting, training, and coaching members of the football team.
- The Defensive Coordinator is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC).
- The Defensive Coordinator will provide academic support while strengthening the football program's competitive advantage that results in the program's financial sustainability and the academic achievement of its student athletes.
Characteristics of the Opportunity
- Assists with year-round recruitment of high school and junior college players, including traveling to prospective games/events, phone calls, and letters to both coaches and players.
- Maintains knowledge of defensive coaching strategies.
- Assists with pre and post workouts.
- Ensures tapes and video equipment are prepared for home and away games and exchange tapes with opponents.
- Records statistics for each game.
- Monitors and ensures student athletes adhere to the policies and procedures of the College.
- Generates additional funds for support of the program.
- Assists in field and weight room care and maintenance.
- Serves as liaison between the Athletic Department and the Office of Admissions.
- Serves as a member of the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management committee to review enrollment, housing, and financial data on a weekly basis.
- Serves as an advisor for residents to help students with their decision making and career choices.
- Develops intramural activities in conjunction with Student Life Programs.
- Designs and develops outreach activities for student athletes.
- Partners with the food services staff to enforce student rules and regulations in the dining area and throughout the campus.
- Serves as a member of the chapel committee to determine speakers/programs for each semester.
- Prepares and forwards all administrative requirements to the Head Coach within policy guidelines.
- Tutors and conducts study hall and enhances the faculty-student relationship.
- Represents the College and the football program in a professional manner.
Qualifications:
- This position requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three to 3 to 5 years experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered as meeting the minimum qualification of this position.
- Strong knowledge of current issues and best practices in higher education and intercollegiate athletics.
- Thorough understanding of and experience with rules, policies and procedures of NCAA, SSC, Title IX, and state regulations as it pertains to athletic operations.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to gender equity and ethnic diversity.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
