Job Summary
Primary Function:
The role of the assistant coach is to assist the head coach in carrying out assigned responsibilities and to provide sports activity supervision, training and coaching to student athletes.
Essential Functions:
- The Assistant Coach provides assistance to the Head Coach as follows:
- Follows all rules and regulations from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as well as the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA).
- Recruits new student athletes to the program
- Oversees the academic progress of student athletes.
- In Season Duties Assist Head Coach as follows:
- Assists Head Coach in taking inventory of equipment and ensuring equipment is insured.
- Assists the Head Coach in issuing equipment to athletes.
- Assists Head Coach in providing accurate information needed to compile eligibility lists and other reports.
- Meets with athletes to discuss all rules and regulations, with specific emphasis on the Athletic Code.
- Plans and executes preseason conditioning routines for student athletes.
- Provides training direction, encouragement, motivation, and nutritional advice to prepare athletes for games and competitive events.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts practice sessions
- Plans and directs physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance.
- Evaluates athletes' skills and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics.
- Makes travel and lodging arrangements for away games. Emphasizes safety precautions; be aware of best training procedures and injury preventative actions.
- Instructs players in rules of the game, rule changes, new developments, and innovative ideas.
- May drive players to and from games.
- Post Season Duties-Assists Head Coach as follows:
- Assist in return, storage and inventory of school equipment.
- Assists with Annual Budget.
- Reports on team as required by Head Coach &/or Athletic Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or related field preferred.
- Prior collegiate playing experience, preferred.
- Three (3) years coaching experience, college level preferred.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations for sport.
- Ability to build rapport with students and coaches.
- Ability to communicate in a clear concise manner.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record to be insured by the University's Insurance Carrier.
Working Conditions:
- Frequently stands, walks, bends and other movements for long periods of time.
- Travel 50% of the time in season.
- Requires lifting of equipment in excess of 50 pounds.
