QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications, knowledge, and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Proof of certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC);
  • Proof of certification as a CPR Trainer to certify staff members in CPR and AED training or proof of certification within 6 months of hiring;
  • Florida State Licensure or eligibility of receiving licensing within 60 days of date of hire;
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Master's degree in Athletic Training preferred;
  • Familiarity with NJCAA governing rules;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, specifically related to athletic training policies and procedures;
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and efficiency skills;
  • Ability to maintain strict accuracy and be detail oriented;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of proven athletic training experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer;
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification;
  • Ability, technical skills, and proven knowledge to work with elite collegiate athletes;
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written) in order to work within a state ranked program;
  • Motivated self-starter with high character, integrity and leadership skills;
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others;
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications;
  • Valid Florida driver's license.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Working directly under the supervision of the Athletic Director on all organizational and athletic training aspects of the collegiate teams.
  • Instructing student-athletes on injury care and prevention and rehabilitative methods for existing injuries.
  • Working fluctuating hours and responsibilities within different functional areas of the institution to be determined.
  • Developing, implementing and modifying all athletic training policies and procedures.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assume all responsibilities in the development and implementation of all athletic training services for athletes within the College athletic department;
  • Represent the College at all required state, regional and national meetings;
  • Handle initial athletic clearance inclusive of all medical forms, insurance information and pre-participation physicals prior to athlete being allowed to participate with his/her athletic team;
  • Instruct student athletes on injury and illness evaluation, rehabilitation and on utilizing appropriate physician referrals;
  • Instruct student athletes on injury prevention as well as on existing injuries and on rehabilitative methodologies;
  • Treatment and applying therapeutic modalities, taping, bracing, and splinting/casting;
  • Establish relationships with orthopedic and general practice physicians in the community to enhance medical care received by the student athletes;
  • Work under the direction of the supervising physician;
  • Schedule needed medical appointments for student athletes;
  • Accompany student athletes to medical appointments as needed;
  • Communicate with physicians and coaches regarding student-athlete injury and participation status;
  • Maintain and inventory supplies as required, biannually;
  • Maintain daily progress notes and additional notes regarding communication with physicians, teachers, and parents;
  • Create weekly contact log for submission to Athletic Director for services provided to student-athletes;
  • Work with the College insurance coordinator for timely filing of insurance paperwork/claims;
  • Cover all home athletic events for all sports teams;
  • Cover all athletic tournaments sponsored by the College;
  • Travel to away athletic events as schedule permits
