Apex Sports & Events is a state-of-the-art, 200,000-sq. ft. venue located in Hillsborough, NJ, just an hour outside of New York City. We are a multi-sport training, recreation, events, and entertainment facility that will serve as a hub for a full spectrum of sports, as well as many other recreation and community pursuits. The facility will provide an atmosphere of community to sports clubs, event organizers, and participants and will focus on five principle offerings: 

  • Youth sports training programs, clinics, and camps
  • Sports performance and fitness training
  • Youth and adult leagues, tournaments, and events
  • Fun, affordable, family entertainment and food & beverage
  • Facility rental for corporate meetings and social gathering events

Apex houses indoor and outdoor turf fields, hardwood courts, batting tunnels, clip and climb walls, ninja & aerial ropes courses, sports performance areas, a family entertainment center with interactive games, multi-purpose rooms, a corporate center, and food & beverage service.

POSITION SUMMARY

Officiating at Apex requires a demonstrated ability to constructively and professionally interact with competitive adult players and teach and direct young players in the same manner. The ideal candidate will have some formal experience officiating, a keen understanding of the rules of the game, and operate under a 'safety first' commitment. Applicants should be able to control but not negatively impact/influence the flow of play, politely interact with customers, and deliver a safe, competitive, and fun outcome. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Enforce and teach laws of the game
  • Prep game field and conduct proper team check-ins (games must run on time)
  • Ensuring a safe environment for athletes and sidelines (recognizing and acting on safety precautions)
  • Communicating using clear, constructive, and simple language
  • Must enjoy interacting with a wide age range of athletes 
  • Friendly and courteous with athletes, parents, and Apex team members fellow referee mentorship
  • Desire to hone your craft capitalizing on your strengths and remaining open to areas of improvement
  • Neat in appearance and professional in manner and communication
  • Inspiring confidence and self-belief
  • Attend staff meetings/trainings as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of officiating experience (at any level)
  • Licenses/Certifications (or active pursuit of) preferred
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, predominately evenings and weekends, and arrive ahead of game time
  • Must possess current CPR/FIRST AID certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified period of time

 WORKING CONDITIIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to move or lift lightweight equipment (goals into place, etc.)
  • Position requires standing and activity for extended periods of time (indoors or outdoors), squatting, stooping, jogging, sprinting, or bending into awkward positions while performing job functions
