Job Summary
The work focuses on evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Educating and counseling of student-athletes is critical in this work as is health care administration in consultation with team physician and family-specific medical professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
- Serve as the primary on-site athletic trainer at evening, weekend, summer, and off-campus athletics events as assigned by the head athletic trainer and director of athletics.
- Provide and coordinate injury treatment, rehabilitation, and cognitive assessments while maintaining records for all students.
- Communicate with the head athletic trainer, student-athletes, coaches, and parents/guardians regarding student-athlete injuries.
- Adhere to high professional standards in all areas including appearance and communication with students, coaches, faculty, staff, and families.
- Assist in cleaning and managing the supplies and equipment of the sports medicine program and supervision of training room during assigned hours.
- Attend required interscholastic athletics program meetings.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
- Be available during the hours and dates set by the head athletic trainer and the director of athletics.
- Exhibit enthusiasm for the role of athletics in an independent-school setting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstration of cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the culture lenses they bring to interactions.
- An understanding of different perspectives, the ability to interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.
- Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to sports medicine.
- Experience as an athletic trainer at the high school or college level is strongly preferred.
- Be a NATA member in good standing.
- Possess NATA certification.
