Job Summary
Job Description:
The assistant coach is responsible for assisting the women's head coach with the development and competitiveness of a Division 1 program primarily by instructing student-athletes on track and field skills and techniques, assessing comprehension of skills and techniques, and preparing student-athletes for competition. The position is also responsible for the identification and recruitment of high-caliber prospective student-athletes.
Primary Responsibilities (60%): Multi-events, High Jump, Short Sprints/ Short Hurdles
Provide individual and team instruction to student-athletes on:
- rules & fundamentals
- skill attainment
- techniques and methods required to demonstrate satisfactory performance in a safe manner
- team concepts
Provide individualized coaching/tutoring/mentoring to student-athletes, including preparatory work that includes:
- assessing student-athlete skill attainment demonstrated during practice, competition, and in films of both practice and competition
- developing a yearly plan for athletes that focuses on peak performances at championship meets.
- developing instruction for individual student-athletes and specific team needs
- determining pre-competition activities that will be conducted during days of competition
- attending workshops and training sessions to research methods to provide student-athletes with training and instruction on: rules, fundamentals, team concepts, physical health, safety, skill attainment, conference rules and regulations
Secondary responsibilities (30%)
Recruiting:
- Identifying talented, academically qualified prospective student-athletes in event groups
- Communicating and engaging with recruits within NCAA guidelines
Administrative duties as assigned, including, but not limited to (10%):
- collaborating with women's head coach to develop annual goals for the program
- maintaining and sharing records and practice plans with women's head coach and co-coaches.
- effectively communicating with coaches, prospects and parents
- tracking academic progress and providing counseling as appropriate
- assisting with fundraising, marketing and promotional activities
- administering sports camps as directed by head coach and athletics administration
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Prior experience instructing and coaching, preferably at the Division I level
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Certification in coaching areas strongly encouraged
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required
- Computer, social networking, and video editing skills strongly encouraged
