Job Summary

Summer Camp Counselor

Ramah Sports Academy (RSA) is an overnight Jewish summer sports camp in Cheshire, CT, for children and teens with a passion for athletics and a desire to elevate all aspects of their game while immersed in a vibrant Jewish community. With experienced coaches, caring role models, state-of-the-art athletic facilities, and a wide range of electives, RSA is the perfect mix of elite sports instruction, joyful community, and inspired Jewish living. We are searching for caring, attentive, creative, and energetic individuals to be camp counselors throughout the summer (a passion for sports is a plus).

Counselors at Ramah Sports Academy support campers in developing a deep understanding and appreciation of their Jewish identity while also helping to develop a true sense of community. Counselors are responsible for their campers’ physical, social, and emotional health, safety, and well-being. Counselors are instrumental in facilitating the daily routine; planning, leading and participating in activities and programs for campers.

Responsibilities
-Act as a role model throughout the summer
-Serve as the primary live-in caretaker and counselor campers
-Responsible for facilitating the daily routine, including planning activities, and implementing programs for campers
-Know where campers are and need to be at all times-- making sure they are on time to meals and programs
-Create a culture that feels special through care, special cabin activities, rituals, and traditions
-Understand each individual camper’s social, physical, and emotional health, needs and ensure their safety, and well-being
-Encourage and support campers
-Manage camper behaviors using positive behavior management techniques
-Work with co-staff, head coaches, and unit head
-Contribute to and participate in all camp activities
-Participate in counselor training
-Perform other related duties as assigned by the Camp Director

Qualifications:
-High School Graduate
-Have experience working with children
-Previous experience in a Jewish camp, educational, non-profit, or communal environment preferred
-Must be caring, empathetic, patient, hard-working, and diligent professional who exhibits sound judgment
-Take initiative and be creative, enthusiastic, open-minded and high-energy
-Must have the ability to function both independently and as part of a team
