Job Summary

The Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Communication and Media Studies invites applications for the position Instructor of Sports Television Production.

 

If you have knowledge and experience in sports media production or multimedia journalism and would like to segue into college teaching, working with young enthusiastic minds eager to work in sports media we have a position for you. 

 

The instructor will teach entry and intermediate level courses in sports communication, video production, and gameday production for multiple sports that contribute programming to the university’s cable television channel as well as digital platforms.

 

The objective of the Television and Multimedia Journalism and Sports Communication concentrations is to provide students the opportunity to develop a professional reel to gain internships and employment in sports media.

 

Hands-on field experience, critiques of students’ work, class discussion, lectures, video presentations, and individual coaching are examples of in-classroom expectations. 

 

Previous live game productions, sportscasts and student play-by-play announcers have won multiple  national awards from the College Sports Media Awards, College Broadcasters, Inc., Broadcast Education Association, and Suncoast Emmy regional awards (National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences).  Game productions and live sportscasts will involve working selected week nights and certain weekend days or nights. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Communication, an MFA, or a closely related field from an accredited university by hire date.

Should also submit a demo reel of both personal work and student work supervised in sports production and live game broadcasts.  It is preferred that the candidate have a working knowledge of, proficiency and experience with, and the ability to both use and teach the use of switchers like the Tricaster, video replay units like the 3-Play, sports graphics packages like Xpression or AJT LiveBook, camera and wireless camera packages, audio mixer, and intercom equipment for game broadcasts. Also, the use of Adobe Premiere and Edius to teach basic field video production and editing.
