Sportswriter
Job Summary
The Creston News Advertiser - a Shaw Media publication located in southwest Iowa - is seeking an energetic sportswriter to lead our coverage of high school athletics, community sports, and Southwestern Community College.
The successful candidate will manage the sports coverage for the Creston News Advertiser, a 3,400 circulation five-day-a-week paper, as well as the Osceola Sentinel-Tribune, a 1,800 circulation weekly paper and the Adair County Free Press, a 1,500 circulation weekly paper, and the Fontanelle Observer weekly paper.
Within the past three years, prep sports teams in the area have produced a state track team championship, state softball championship, state cross country championship, and state wrestling championship, as well as numerous individual state champions and place winners.
We are looking for a team player who will provide quality game reports and in-depth feature stories, while maintaining a reliable presence on social media. We are looking for a candidate who will continue to grow both our print and our digital audiences. The position requires a reporter who knows how to incorporate photos or videos in his or her reporting and who can make a story come to life.
Solid knowledge of AP style and grammar required, as is the ability to design pages. Experience with the web, multimedia, photography, and InDesign is a plus. Must have a valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of insurance.
