Job Summary
The Head Cheer & Dance Coach will report to the Director, Campus Recreation, unless otherwise noted by the institution and administration. This position is responsible for the organization, direction, and administration of all aspects of the cheer and dance program in accordance with the University, NCAA division I rules and regulations, The Big South Conference, and USA Cheer (United States Governing Body for Sport Cheering).
Responsibilities Include:
- Establish a collaborative leadership model to develop and engage student leaders in establishing annual goals, budget plan, structure for captain(s) and student roles, shared vision, and succession planning for student leadership.
- Coordinate with Campus Recreation and the Athletic Department (which may include athletic operations, athletic marketing, and game day band director) for game day events and procedures.
- Attend all home men's and women's basketball games
- Travel and supervision of teams to Big South, NCAA, and post season tournaments
- Oversee the supervision of an assistant coach, if applicable
- Ensure that all team members are game day/performance ready
- Maintain a good working relationship with University Departments and coordinate with Campus Recreation to ensure all Cheer & Dance athletes meet minimum academic standards and are in good standing with the university.
- Assist in the coordination of campus and community events, and transportation to and from events for the entire team
- Coordinate the selection, purchase and distribution of equipment, following department and university processes.
- Coordinate fundraising efforts approved by Campus Recreation.
- Collaborate with team captains to organize and conduct tryouts, each year, for the team selection process, utilizing objective rubrics to evaluate students during try-outs.
- Maintain contact with team participants about rules and regulations set forth by the institution and the program.
- Adhere to all University policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skills
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
- 2 or more years of experience in coaching cheerleading or dance
- Obtain and/or Maintain USA Cheer Safety & Risk Management Course (must be obtained within 30 days of employment)
- NFHS Concussion In Sports Course or similar concussion training program
- US Center for Safesport Training on Sexual Misconduct, Mandated Reporting, and Physical and Emotional Misconduct Prevention or similar training
