Job Summary
Glenbrook North High School Hockey Club (“GBNHC”) plays in the highly competitive Scholastic Hockey League (“SHL”). Currently the program has 2 Varsity teams (Green/Gold) and 1 JV team. GBNHC has excelled in state tournaments appearing in 11 state championship games and winning 5 state titles. The tradition and the quality of Glenbrook North Hockey is one that the entire community can celebrate. All players playing for GBNHC must be enrolled and in good standing at Glenbrook North High School.
Job Description: GBNHC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Hockey Director & Head Coach for the Varsity Green (V1) team. Reporting to and collaborating with the GBNHC Board, the Hockey Director will be responsible for all all aspects of the program, including leading and coaching the Varsity Green (V1) team, providing guidance and strategic direction on the Varsity Gold (V2) and JV teams, player development, game preparation, off-ice conditioning, off-season training, scouting, recruiting, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated coach to make a significant impact on the development and growth of young athletes and promote a fun and competitive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Training and development: for all players in the program at all levels.
- Coach oversight: for all coaches in the program.
- Roster Management: Build and maintain competitive rosters (SHL/AHL teams)
- Coaching: V1 planning and implementing effective and challenging practices. Handles all game preparation, skills sessions, off-ice conditioning, and video breakdown. Responsible for leadership across entire coaching staff and all GBNHC teams. The goal is to ensure success and getting the best out of the players at all levels and positions.
- Communication & Collaboration: Establish and maintain strong relationships with coaching staff to ensure seamless coordination for player involvement & development. Communicate effectively with players, parents, and board members.
- Scholastic Hockey League: Represent the GBNHC and coordinate placement and scheduling.
- Other duties: support community initiatives, team activities, and special events. Monitor and support student athletes’ academics.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years coaching at a high school level. Strong knowledge of USA Hockey & AHAI rules. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively coordinate with coaches and families. Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records of rosters and player information. A collaborative mindset to work closely with other staff members in achieving organizational goals. Experience in hockey team management, scouting, or coaching is an asset. Familiarity with high school hockey in Illinois is preferred.
