- Head Coach: Wade Phillips
- Stadium: TDECU Stadium
What You Need to Know: Wade Phillips is another coaching legend joining the XFL. He’s got 50 years of experience and won a Super Bowl with the Broncos in 2015.
Las Vegas, NV
- Head Coach: Rod Woodson
- Stadium: TBA
What You Need to Know: Rod Woodson is one of the greatest defensive backs in NFL history, and he also has a wealth of coaching experience at the NFL level.
Orlando, FL
- Head Coach: Terrell Buckley
- Stadium: Camping World Stadium
What You Need to Know: Terrell Buckley played more than 10 years in the NFL and was most recently a cornerbacks coach at Ole Miss.
San Antonio, TX
- Head Coach: Hines Ward
- Stadium: The Alamodome
What You Need to Know: Hines Ward is a two-time Super Bowl winner and former offensive assistant for the New York Jets. He coached wide receivers at Florida Atlantic in 2021.
Seattle, WA
- Head Coach: Jim Haslett
- Stadium: Lumen Field
What You Need to Know: Jim Haslett was the New Orleans Saints head coach for five years and won the NFL coach of the year award in 2000.
St. Louis, MO
- Head Coach: Anthony Becht
- Stadium: The Dome
What You Need to Know: Anthony Becht played in the NFL for 12 years and was recently a tight ends coach for the San Diego Fleet.
Washington, D.C.
- Head Coach: Reggie Barlow
- Stadium: Audi Field
What You Need to Know: Reggie Barlow played for seven years in the NFL and became a successful coach at Alabama State and other HBCU schools.
Types of Job Opportunities for Non-Athletes in the XFL
You don’t need to be an athlete to join an XFL team. If you have the right qualifications and skills, you can become part of the upstart league while getting paid for doing so. We’ll cover the best opportunities for doing this below.
Coaching
If you’re a football coach who would like to test your skills at a higher level, you might consider applying for coaching jobs in the XFL.
That being said, these will likely be very difficult to get. There are only going to be eight teams in the league this year. So, unless you know somebody, you may be better off pursuing one of the job opportunities below.
Medical Staff
Do you have medical experience? Do you love working with sports teams? If you answered yes to both of those questions, then joining the medical staff of an XFL team could be for you.
Athletic trainers are responsible for helping players stay game-ready, and they do that by providing treatment before and after practices and games. You may also be asked to help design physical therapy plans to get injured players back up to speed faster.
Journalism and Broadcasting
There are also job opportunities worth looking into for journalism and broadcasting.
For example, you might be able to get a job as a sportswriter who covers the XFL beat alongside other local football programs. Each XFL team and its broadcast partners will also need announcers and play-by-play professionals, which could be another job for you to pursue in this league.
Marketing and Ticket Sales
You can also look at XFL job opportunities in team marketing and sales departments. Jobs like marketing director, SEO specialist, and corporate relationship manager may all be available for you to apply for.
Getting Your Career in the XFL Started
Start with the Right Skills
The first thing you want to do is ensure that you have the right qualifications for the job that you want. That will typically mean both previous experience in a similar role and relevant academic background.
If you don’t have either of those qualifications, you may find it difficult to get the job you want. Even though great experience can outweigh a lack of education, football jobs in leagues like the XFL are extremely competitive.
Focus on Networking
Because XFL jobs can be so competitive, networking is a must. You’ll have a much better chance of getting hired for the jobs you apply for if you know some people who are hiring.
Networking can be difficult. But most teams will host yearly gatherings to get to know the local community. These events can be an opportunity for you to meet some of the people who may decide whether to hire you down the line.
You can also network online nowadays. For example, if you want to be a journalist, consider starting a blog on your own. If someone in a position of power reads it and likes it, you never know where that could lead.
