Job Summary

OVERVIEW:
The Head of Strength and Conditioning for the Houston Dynamo Academy will be accountable for leading and managing the strength and conditioning program, ensuring all players have the capacity to perform at the highest level. The candidate will design and implement an age appropriate program to enhance the long-term athletic development for all academy players, including preparing off-season plans for all teams. This position will report directly to the Head of Performance.
 
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

  • Design, implement and review appropriate strength and conditioning programs for all Academy teams 

  • Design and implement age appropriate movement skill sessions to enhance performance 

  • Conduct pre-training warmup activation and injury prevention sessions 

  • Collect and analyze GPS data for the designated Academy teams 

  • Collect subjective data for all Academy teams utilizing the clubs Athlete Management System 

  • Design individual corrective exercises based on test results and maintain athlete records 

  • Assist in designing an Academy testing protocol to help ensure long term athletic development 

  • Assist Academy coaches in planning training to enhance tactical periodization 

  • Assist the First Team performance staff when necessary 

  • Must be available to work long hours, including but not limited to holidays and weekends 

  • Extensive travel to Development Academy away games will be required

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or a related field required (Master’s degree preferred) 

  • Minimum of (2-3) years of experience working with elite/competitive athletes, preferably in soccer 

  • Proficiency in demonstrating athletic movement both on the field and in the gym 

  • Experience with sports science technology required 

  • Previous experience coaching athletes at a professional, collegiate or academy level 

  • Knowledge of nutritional requirements for athletes is preferred 

  • NSCA CSCS or CPT and/or NASM PES Certifications preferred 

  • CPR/AED Certification 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the company from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
 
Regular attendance and hours in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Houston Dynamo from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the team needs including working game nights.
