Job Summary

SUMMARY: The Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for all aspects of the men’s and women’s tennis program in accordance with NJCAA Division I and Alabama Community College Conference rules and philosophies. 

Head Coaching Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for administration of all aspects of an NJCAA men’s and women’s Division I tennis program including: recruitment and retention of student athletes; grant-in-aid recommendations; academic integrity; fiscal management; scheduling; compliance with NJCAA, ACCC, and Institute rules and regulations.
  • Equipment purchase recommendations (purchase of uniforms consistent with MMI Athletic licensing and color guides including equipment care and yearly inventory).
  • Academic advisor for members of the men’s and women’s tennis teams
  • Development of fall and spring competitions under policy and budget guidelines, to include the arrangement of transportation, meals and lodging for competitions off campus.
  • Compliance with all NJCAA, ACCC, MMI, and Athletic Department rules, regulations and policies.
  • Alumni, community, and media relations, fundraising and any other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain professional and ethical academic standards.
  • Participate actively in staff development and professional growth programs.
  • Assist student-athletes with transfer to four-year athletic programs.
  • Support the Mission of Marion Military Institute.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty and Staff Handbook.
  • Create a quality program with will attract students and student athletes to attend MMI.
  • Incorporate an academic policy for checking and evaluating the student-athlete’s grades and attendance.
  • Maintain the physical conditioning program of the student athletes during both the regular and off-season.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a tennis coach.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of Tennis Course standards and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of USTA/ITA rules.
  • Working knowledge of NJCAA and ACCC rules and regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required with the ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, MMI faculty and staff, student athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, alumni, and the public; maintain a congenial rapport with all those he/she comes in contact with.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance.
  • Must possess the physical skills necessary to demonstrate tennis playing techniques.
  • Understanding of NCAA and NAIA transfer regulations for student-athletes.
  • Must pass required State of Alabama Background Investigation.
  • Valid Alabama Driver’s license with satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • As a MMI athletics staff member, the selected candidate will be a person of integrity and character who shares a commitment for knowing and complying with NJCAA, Conference, and institutional rules as they apply to the MMI athletics program.

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience in collegiate coaching
