<p><strong>Summary:</strong></p> <p>The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy (the &ldquo;Academy&rdquo;) is a 501(c)3 subsidiary of the Washington Nationals Philanthropies (the &ldquo;Philanthropies&rdquo;) and operates as the Philanthropies&rsquo; programmatic arm.&nbsp; The Academy&rsquo;s mission is to <em>use baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health among underserved youth in Washington, D.C.</em>&nbsp; To achieve its mission, the Academy implements holistic programs throughout the year at its nine-acre educational and athletic facility in the Fort DuPont neighborhood of Ward 7.&nbsp;</p> <p>Reporting to the Director of Academics and Skills Building (DASB) the Program Associate, Academics and Alumni Relations (PA) supports the development of Academy academic programming, and is primarily responsible for creating, delivering and tracking opportunities that connect alumni to the Academy.&nbsp; In collaboration with other Programs Staff, the PA will utilize existing systems, (and where necessary, format new systems) to track relevant data on the demographics, academic placements/milestones, and athletic (and other) achievements of current and past Scholar Athletes.&nbsp; The PA will engage regularly with partner schools to ensure alignment between them and the academic supports provided at the Academy. The PA will assist in the recruitment of prospective Scholar-Athletes for core programming.</p> <p>In partnership with the DASB, the PA will manage, coach and assist in the evaluation of all part-time classroom staff. The PA will collaborate with Academy colleagues to provide training, resources, feedback, and hands-on support in the areas of classroom management, lesson planning, facilitation of lessons, discipline, communication with parents and home visits.</p> <p>The PA will be responsible for oversight of programs and for creating systems that a) support the academic and social growth of current Scholar Athletes, and b) establish and sustain meaningful connections between those that have matriculated through the full Academy program, and moved into high school and beyond.&nbsp; The PA will also manage major annual events, including but not limited to, High School Highlight (annual high school showcase), Nationals Park All Star events, and recruitment and supervision of Summer Youth Employment Program employees (SYEP).</p> <p>The PA will develop and implement programs and host events designed to inform, educate and regularly re-engage alumni, and will coordinate all celebratory activities for each &ldquo;graduating class&rdquo; of Scholar Athletes &ndash; including the spring field trip, graduation gift, graduation ceremony, and on-field recognition of Scholar Athletes.</p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p> <p><strong><em>Academics</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Create, plan and lead Scholar-Athlete and parent-facing programming/enrichment events;</li> <li>Assist the Director, Academics and Skills Building in the planning and delivery of annual Social- Emotional Learning assessments;</li> <li>Coordinate with Classroom Coordinators, Baseball/Softball Coordinators, Coaches and other program staff to ensure effective communication, consistent delivery of supports, daily logistics, lessons, activities and community conversations;</li> <li>Set protocols for recognizing Scholar Athlete academic achievements; and,</li> <li>Establish systems to oversee, track and monitor computer use.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Alumni Relations</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Create strategies to increase alumni engagement with core programming and other Academy-based programs;</li> <li>Establish, track and monitor systems and procedures for gaining parental permission, sign-in, hour tracking, and communication with schools to ensure alumni are meeting community service and/or other high school requirements;</li> <li>Develop and maintain a database of alumni information: including (but not limited to) demographics, academic placements/milestones, and athletic (and other) achievements; and,</li> <li>Actively research and utilize information from established programs where alumni relations are prominent, effective and successfully implemented.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Program Operations &amp; Support</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Co-manage and participate in the recruitment of prospective Scholar Athletes;</li> <li>Manage and collaborate with partner schools to recruit and engage students and their families in Academy events;</li> <li>Manage and establish relationships with partner schools and external organizations to assist in the execution of programs or events;</li> <li>Ensure that Academy attendance records, communication logs, and other pertinent information is accurate and up-to-date;</li> <li>Coordinate pre-game Scholar-Athlete assets;</li> <li>Coordinate and manage <em>Academy All-Stars</em> events; and,</li> <li>Assist in the planning of program schedules and events in relation, but not limited to academics and enrichment.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Staff Management</em></strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Assist the DASB in the hiring, training and support of part-time Classroom/Teacher Coordinators and other program support staff as needed;</li> <li>Manage, hire, and train D.C. Government Summer Youth Employees through partnership with the Department of Employment Services; and,</li> <li>Manage volunteers with respect to instructional/academic activities, as well as on-field activities as needed.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Requirements</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Required: Bachelor&rsquo;s degree</li> <li>Required: 4+ years of experience of youth development in classroom or recreational setting</li> <li>Required: Ability to manage a staff including volunteer coaches</li> <li>Required: Experience communicating with and incorporating alumni in post-graduation activities</li> <li>Required: Demonstrated experience and emotional commitment to working with youth and families in a low-income, urban community; belief that all students can achieve at high levels when provided with appropriate resources and supports</li> <li>Required: Commitment to achieving the articulated objectives of the Academy for scholar-athletes, staff, and the community at-large</li> <li>Required: Strong written and verbal communication skills</li> </ul> <p>Physical/Environmental Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.</li> </ul>
