Position Summary:
The Director, Player Care will be responsible for leading the provision of medical services while supervising the injury prevention, treatment, and return-to-play strategies and interventions for the NBA Team NBA team. This position will contribute to athlete care initiatives across the Monumental Basketball teams which include the 2019 WNBA Champions the Washington Mystics, Capital City Go-Go (G-League) and Wizards District Gaming (NBA 2k). We are seeking someone with a wide range of skills to carry out multiple care-related functions with the organization’s Athlete Care and Performance Group.

Responsibilities: 

  • Head all injury prevention and return to play strategies and interventions. 

  • Lead the case management and clinical strategy for all injured players. 

  • Oversee the development and management of all medical areas. 

  • Coordinate the acquisition and integration of cutting-edge medical and scientific technologies.

  • Incorporate expertise in manual therapy techniques and other physical therapy treatment interventions. 

  • Interpret movement dysfunctions utilizing player data and through general movement observations. 

  • Lead the medical assessment and evaluation processes for prospective players. 

  • Communicate and work collaboratively with all vital groups including the athlete care and performance team, internal departments, and consultants as needed.

  • Build and reinforce an environment of high performance, dedication and excellence through education, collaboration, and continual learning.

  • Analyze and interpret complex information to share with front office staff, coaches, and athletes.

  • Coordinate internal communications while collecting, collaborating, preparing and delivering reports.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Physical Therapy.

  • 8-10 years experience as a physical therapist working with high performance athletes. 

  • 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role with a focus on development of staff, infrastructure and processes. 

  • Experience in applied sports performance and/or medical research. 

  • Expertise in emergency care practices, techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, with a high attention to detail.

  • High ability to operate technology, and high proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Skilled in data handling, data interpretation and medical auditing. 

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
