About the Department 

Development & Philanthropy 

The primary purpose of the Development department is to raise funds for the organization’s various philanthropic efforts (Community Impact and special projects). Development creates and executes a yearly comprehensive plan to secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations. The department is responsible for supporting the expansion and diversification of the organization’s funder base, furthering the potential for future fundraising efforts.  

About the Position 

This position presents amazing opportunity for the skilled and talented writer who is confident that they can make a difference. The role will perform prospecting and grantwriting, helping NYRR identify new corporate, foundation and government donors, and will interact with funders regularly  

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Write all government, corporate, or institutional grant proposals, reports, and letters of intent  
  • Prepare and submit supplementary materials to complete interim and final reports 
  • Work across internal teams, including finance and the community and youth program leads in the development of proposals and reports 
  • Assist NYRR’s special events, both by inviting current institutional donors and prospects and by assisting on-site at the events 
  • Prospect and prepare research on prospective corporate, foundation, and government funders 
  • Manage tracking systems (salesforce) for grant submissions, reports, and materials to meet funder deadlines and requirements 
  • Establish contacts with new and existing funders; hold person-to-person calls and meetings as appropriate 
  • Serve as a liaison to our community impact programs  

Job Requirements:  

Skills and Attributes: 

  • The ability to align yourself with our mission to make fitness and running accessible to everyone – no matter their age or income level. 
  • The ability to work with and collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with community impact teams as well as finance, volunteer, and strategic partnerships teams  
  • Excellent verbal and communications skills to support relationship development  

Experience: 

  • 3 years of related experience 
  • Experience writing grants to foundations, corporations, and government entities 
  • A strong track record of success in terms of percentage of grants awarded and overall funding  

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred   

Other Requirements: 

  • All staff are required to work the NYC Half Marathon, Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon. 

Salary: $60,000/year
