Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Strength and Conditioning the Associate Coach, Strength and Conditioning will be responsible for the following:

  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating sport-specific speed, strength, and conditioning programs for varsity athletic teams as assigned.
  • Manage the production of educational materials (e.g. booklets, videos, etc.) for student-athletes and recruits.
  • Overseeing the general operation of the facility.
  • Analyzing nutritional habits of student-athletes and provide education on appropriate dietary and nutritional habits. Implementing a performance dining (training table) plan for teams as assigned and assist with overall execution of performance dining for all department sponsored sports.
  • Managing Polar Heart Rate technology and Exercise Physiology testing (in conjunction with the GW Exercise Science Department.)
  • Communicating with individual sport coaches and sports medicine staff regarding physical training issues and injury limitations of student-athletes.
  • Anticipating potential risks of injury, taking measures to remove them, and, in the event of an injury, having the ability to implement emergency medical procedures.
  • Organize, recruit, and instruct strength and conditioning interns and/or graduate students to assist with the day-to-day operations of the strength and conditioning department.
  • Remaining knowledgeable and current on compliance-related items with all NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference (and other affiliated conferences), and University rules and regulations.
  • Manage the budget at the direction of the Director of Strength and Conditioning.
  • Will manage the Strength and Conditioning program for Men's Basketball. Will also work with other sports as assigned.
  • Travel with Men's Basketball

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
  • Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or a health related field. Masters preferred.
  • Experience in working at NCAA Division I or professional level.
  • 2 years' experience overseeing strength and conditioning staff and facilities.
  • Experience working with heart rate technology and collecting exercise physiology data.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Movement Analysis Software (Coaches Eye/Dartfish/etc.).

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with basketball at the NCAA Division I or professional level preferred.
