Job Summary


Summary:  

As the Manager, Communications, you will serve as one of the primary media liaisons for the team and contribute to day-to-day promotion of the team and its players. 

 You will facilitate team coverage through traditional and digital media outlets, field media requests, actively pitch features for players, coaches and staff, handle gameday media operations, and travel to select away games with the Club to serve as on-site PR contact. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit and distribute press releases for player transactions, partnerships and community events 
  • Follow emerging trends in sports/soccer/business and incorporate them into the team written materials
  • Regularly maintain and distribute game notes 
  • Work with content team to publish game notes, game recaps and feature stories to official Club website/app
  • Pitch feature ideas to editorial decision-makers and secure placement
  • Field and respond to incoming media requests
  • Manage the team's feature ideas and player profile content project
  • Attend all Club training sessions and adhere to MLS Media Access Policy
  • Lead game day media relations duties for home games 

Manage Communications game day staff, media availability with players and coaches and assist with local and national broadcasts
 
Essential skills: 

  • Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing
  • A degree in public relations/communications, marketing, sports administration or related field is preferred
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in public relations/communications or journalism 
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced media environment and make quick decisions using sound judgment
  • Open to a variable work schedule that includes nights, weekends and holidays and frequent business travel
  • Exceptional project management skills with ability to manage people/projects, delegate responsibility when appropriate and provide follow-through on multiple projects
  • Individual must be detail-oriented and work well within a team
  • Ability to anticipate problems and identify opportunities 
  • Ability to think strategically, creatively, and in an effective manner while managing multiple issues and projects

 Preferred Skills:  

  • Public relations experience in professional sports
  • Knowledge and passion for Soccer  
  • Familiarity with current patterns and trends in digital and social media
