Job Title: Senior Graphic Designer

SUMMARY:

Sounders FC's Senior Graphic Designer is a top-notch graphic designer with experience leading the design process, while also coaching and developing a small team of Graphic Designers. The individual in this role will create and drive Sounders FC's design work and must manage multiple, simultaneous projects, while always maintaining visual branding standards. The ideal candidate will focus on solving problems for the benefit of the club and be imaginative in thinking, collaborative in process, and innovative in approach.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Work intimately with the Marketing and Digital departments to conceptualize marketing campaigns, promotional elements, digital communications, website design, print collateral and other initiatives that translate to the club's visual identity and brand image.

- Contribute to the Marketing team's overall brand strategy and success in team meetings, cross-department meetings, etc.

- Manage resource utilization and design projects from creative brief to finished output

- Act as creative lead while collaborating with other departments on the design elements of discrete projects - including sales campaigns, partner activations, and more

- Create visual identities for both internal and corporate partner events and programs

- Assist in reviewing and approving design assets submitted by corporate partners

- Manage the development and production schedules of visual marketing projects/campaigns, follow up as necessary to meet deadlines

- Maintain a positive working relationship with vendors, agencies and outside contractors

- Manage internal and external use of logos to ensure brand integrity

- Assist with real-time creation of graphics and GIFs for the Digital and Social Media departments

- Provide creative thinking to help solve business problems for a variety of stakeholders

- Execute various tasks on matchdays and support club initiatives and special projects as needed, including special events



Managerial Responsibilities

- Direct, manage, and develop a small team of high performing Graphic Designers

- Work alongside the Marketing Manager to communicate and coordinate the strategic marketing objectives and concepts of all marketing materials with the design team

- Motivate Graphic Design team members to work collaboratively and effectively

- Mitigate Graphic Design team conflict and communication issues

- Recruit and train new additions to the design team as necessary

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends when needed

- Broad working knowledge of soccer and familiarity with Major League Soccer preferred

- Excellent cultural fit with the values of the organization, with a prior history of community involvement desired



EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) required, preferably in graphic design

- Minimum four (4) years of relevant work experience, preferably in sports marketing

- Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office

- Portfolio must demonstrate a good eye for composition, creativity, color and legibility

- Experience in art direction including an ability to provide succinct creative feedback

- Demonstrated experience in print design with layout for sales and marketing collateral

- Demonstrated experience in web design with layout for email, web and social media graphics

- Experience creating motion graphics, specifically in Adobe After Effects or Photoshop

- Solid understanding of responsive web development and device limitations

- Demonstrated ability to convert Photoshop/Illustrator designs to HTML/CSS

- Experience working within a responsive web environment and how to create a fluid design across breakpoints

- A good understanding of print production processes



WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position functions primarily at the Sounders FC office in Seattle, WA. Must have reliable means of transportation. Given the nature of the Sounders' business, employee must be able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays, including all Sounders home matchdays. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
