Finance Manager

Job Summary

• Supervise several Business Office staff members


• Manage month-end, quarterly, and annual financial close processes


• Prepare and review monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations


• Coordinate preparation of consolidated and unit level monthly budget-to-actual reports


• Coordinate financial reporting required by University Regents, University Office of Business and Finance, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, and any other regulatory agencies


• Coordinate preparation of external audit materials and aspects of external financial reporting


• Manage preparation of annual operating budget


• Assist with monitoring and enhancing accounting procedures, policies, and internal controls


• Perform all other duties as assigned by Athletics Chief Financial Officer

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field


• Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant work experience in a public accounting firm or accounting department of a large and complex organization


• Strong technical background in GAAP accounting and financial reporting


• Strong leadership skills and experience leading full time staff as a direct supervisor


• Experience with automated financial systems, query tools to extract data from systems, and proficiency with administrative and financial information systems and various software applications


• Experience with implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls


• Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze, monitor, and evaluate all financial aspects of the Athletic Department budget


• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast paced, challenging and ever-changing environment


• Strong organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills


• High level of personal integrity and ethics

• CPA certification


• Public accounting experience at Big 4 or regional accounting firm


• Experience in intercollegiate athletics or university setting


• Experience with GASB accounting


• Experience utilizing PeopleSoft general ledger software and Business Objects data warehouse querying software
