Job Summary
The Athletic Trainer works with the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, the athletic training staff, and team physicians to deliver a high level of athletic health care for division one intercollegiate athletes. Assists in providing professional development to Graduate Assistants, and adheres to and complies with University, any Conference affiliate, and the NCAA applicable rules, policies, procedures, and regulations. Will execute administrative duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, such as Insurance, Supply Inventory, Drug Testing Administration, etc. Addresses other related health care problems and assists in team coverage as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and/or the supervising team physician. Additional responsibilities will include:
Injury and Illness Prevention and Wellness Promotion
- Maintain ATR and work space cleanliness
- Develop and implement injury prevention strategies
- Practice and game medical coverage
- Address pre-existing health care problems
Examination, Assessment, and Diagnosis
- Evaluation of acute and chronic athletic injuries
- Assist team physicians in athletic injuries
- Select special tests based on current best practice
Immediate and Emergency Care
- Acute treatment of athletic injuries
- Implement emergency action plans as needed
- Perform various first aid tasks involving bodily fluid and use of PPEs
- Accompany student-athletes in emergent situations
Therapeutic Intervention
- Appropriately apply therapeutic modalities to student-athletes
- Develop and execute injury specific rehabilitation plans
- Provide student-athletes with OTC medication as needed
- Implement manual therapy skills to promote healing
Health Care Administration and Professional Responsibility
- Assist with supply inventory and ordering
- File insurance claims for athletic injuries
- Maintain detailed medical records of student-athletes
- Develop positive relationships with associated healthcare professionals
- Assist team with travel related planning related to student-athlete health & wellbeing, and possible driving responsibilities if needed
Required
- Bachelors' degree in Athletic Training or related field from CAAHEP accredited athletic training education program
- One year experience in Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy and/or Athletic Training
- NATA-BOC and eligible for state license
- Indiana Physical Therapy License if candidate possesses a Physical Therapy Degree
- Must be able to carry and lift coolers of ice, water and medical equipment
Preferred
- Master's degree
- Indiana Athletic Training License
- Two to three years of experience
