Job Summary
The Assistant Coach's primary duties include but are are not limited to
- Primary point of contact regarding communication with Thompson Boat Center and management of all rented space, including the erg room, at Thompson's. The Director of Rowing will work directly with the Associate Athletics Director for Business and Finance to insure proper and timely execution of the Thompson Boat Center rental contract.
- Represent the rowing programs and the University in its ongoing efforts to build a boathouse, specifically by attending community meetings, assisting the University in communication with alumni regarding the boathouse project, and representing the Athletics Department at applicable University meetings and functions.
- Work with both men's and women's programs to ensure that shared expenses are identify and properly allocated in the budget.
- Serve as the main point of contact for host events at the boathouse. In this role the Director of Rowing will ensure that proper permits are in place before an event, manage parking logistics with boathouse management to include host team drop-offs, coordinate race schedules with both men's and women's teams, and other tasks as necessary.
- Attend all meetings, representing the rowing programs and the Athletics Department in its communication with the university.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 1-3 years of coaching experience in the sport of rowing.
- Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of rowing.
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning programs and routines.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment, academic eligibility requirements, and retention of student-athletes.
- Knowledge of athletics recruitment methods and techniques. Ability to create a database for all prospects.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record; must be insurable.
- Ability to drive rowing trailer.
- Experience with maintaining indoor rowing machines and racing shells.
- Available weekends and evenings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
