Job Summary

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Directly responsible to the Director of Athletics.

2.Provides instruction to student-athletes on Tennis fundamentals, performance, and strategy.

3.Organizes and conducts daily practice sessions.

4.Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes.

5.Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops, etc.

6.Has a thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.

7.Adheres to and enforces all policies and procedures as stated in the Oglethorpe University Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Manual and the rules and regulations as stated in the NCAA Division III Manual. Ensures student-athlete understanding and compliance with such rules.

8.Reports any alleged violations of NCAA, conference or institutional rules and regulations.

9.Manages and maintains an assigned operating budget.

10.Prepares inventory of supplies and equipment.

11.Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Director of Athletics.

12.Recruits qualified student-athletes.

13.Works with the Director of Sports Information regarding publicity and promotion of his/her team.

14.Works with the Director of Athletics on scheduling.

15.Recommends athletes for awards.

16.Furnishes information regarding team roster for eligibility, etc. to the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance.

17.Assists with athletic department fundraising initiatives including annual Booster Club expectations.

18.Develops a work schedule (office hours) that make him/her accessible to the student-athlete and other schools.

19.Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Additional qualifications include communication skills that allow for the ability to teach, motivate, and counsel student-athletes effectively as well as being self-motivated, positive, energetic, eager to teach, and a willingness to travel.  
  • Position may require ability (and safe driving record) to drive a 15-passenger van; ability to demonstrate appropriate technical skills during practice; ability to plan, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks; ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
