Job Summary
Responsibilities:
As the Athletic Director, the successful candidate will bring a level of integrity, athletic excellence and academic success to the position, along with successful donor engagement and sponsorship experience in leading this NAIA athletic program with fourteen teams and 380 student athletes.
The Athletic Director will foster relationships with university constituent groups, hire and supervise coaches who are committed to the university mission and core values, student and team success. The successful candidate will have prior experience in athletic administration and coaching. This is an administrative position that requires outstanding leadership and management skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruits, hires and manages coaching staff who work to field competitive teams that focus on student success and provide an overall engaging campus experience for the student athlete.
- Manages budgets and assists with scholarship funding development.
- Maintains compliance with all relevant agencies: governmental, NAIA, conference and institutional.
- Annually reviews the effectiveness of the athletic organization. Sets performance expectations, looks for opportunities for effective uses of resources and student talent.
- Promotes an environment that is respectful towards others and instills integrity and institutional values in all student-athletes
- Create a clear, short and long-term vision for the athletic department. Communicate and adapt it overtime to the changing environmental needs of Avila, market, and overall higher education.
- Chair the Athletic Eligibility Committee and work closely with the Faculty Athletics Representatives, Registrar, faculty, and coaches to ensure accurate eligibility reports and assessments.
- Overall oversight of all game and travel scheduling, rosters and all other administrative duties
- Coordinate and work with Advancement for an effective Eagles Athletic Club operation to increase community visibility and support, including annual fiscal support.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Required, Master's Preferred
Experience in NAIA athletic programs is required.
Minimum five years' experience as an Assistant AD, or Athletic Director or similar position required. Prior coaching experience preferred.
Additional Experience and Skill Set:
- Prior knowledge and experience in successful fund raising for athletic departments
- Knowledge of Title IX regulations and NAIA policies.
- Ability to lead and manages a team of full and part-time staff.
- Strong fiscal/budget skills and experience working with developing athletic scholarships
- Demonstrated high energy for the college's student centered mission-driven, culture, experience working with coaches to field successful teams, and for raising the college's profile through the academic and athletic success of its athletes.
- Critical to this position is leadership, enthusiasm, flexibility, and responsiveness.
- Attention to detail, initiative, decision making, and follow-through are all skill sets necessary for success in this position
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must
- Prioritization of work, setting goals and achieving goals
- Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Radius
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Ability to work independent and within a team environment.
- Capacity to perform complex administrative duties
