Position Summary:

The Athletics Trainer oversees the delivery of athletics injury services to student-athletes during practice and competition and rehabilitation treatment to advance recovery from injury; assists student-athletes in dealing with the physical, mental and emotional trauma of injury; delivers first aid services to visiting teams or spectators at athletics events; and follows the directions of medical doctors and communicates these directions to coaches with regard to decisions related to return to competition and restricted physical activity.

The Athletics Trainer will directly supervise the operation of the athletics training area and in consultation with the athletics administration, determine athletics training supplies and equipment purchases and vendors. This person will work directly with athletics trainers, coaches and athletics administrators from other colleges and universities. In addition, the Athletics Trainer will interact with the team physician, allied health professional and other medical personnel to ensure the continued health and safety of student-athletes whenever there are issues of illness or injury.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review and maintain medical and treatment records and document injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and physician referrals and instructions
  • Maintain the Emergency Action Plan for each sports facility in which the athletics program conducts practice or competition

  • Implement risk management procedures according to department policy
  • Enforce safe and proper conduct and security of OTC and prescribed substances within the training room
  • Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with departments code of ethics and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulations of athletics governance organizations of which the institution is a member

  • Currently 7 women's teams on the Campus comprised of approximately 100 female student-athletes.
  • Responsibilities include in-person activity, one-on-one training, team-specific activities, off-season programs, and summer plans. The Strength and Conditioning coach will work directly with coaches to tailor programming to each team's specific needs and will make purchase recommendations for both the varsity athlete fitness program as well as the fitness program for the rest of the student body. CSCS certification or equivalent is required for this function. This responsibility will extend the positions to 12 months instead of 10 months

Experience & Educational Background:

  • Bachelors Degree in Athletics Training
  • Master's preferred
  • NATA certification; NYS athletics trainers license required
  • 1-3 years experience as an athletics trainer
  • Must be a Certified Athletic Trainer
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certified
  • Experience or certification with Strength and Conditioning programs

Skills & Competencies:

  • Ensure reliability in Athletic Training coverage, and since we are required by the NCAA and Skyline Conference to have an Athletic Trainer at every home event, a full-time Athletic Trainer will allow us to properly plan for our home events.
  • Currently, many of the injuries our student-athletes incur are a result of a lack of proper strength and condition since our athletic training coverage is on a per diem basis. An Athletic Trainer will allow for consistent monitoring of our student-athletes, the imposition of a strength and conditioning program, and a continuation of the current model of injury treatment.
  • Will allow for the development of lines of communication between the Athletic Department and doctors when more serious injuries occur. These lines of communication are essential for both the treatment of existing injuries and the prevention of relapses of these injuries. Currently, very little communication exists between the Athletics Department and medical professional because of our per diem model.
