Job Summary
The University is seeking a qualified candidate for the Executive Associate Athletic Director, Philanthropy and Engagement. Reporting to the Athletic Director and the Senior Vice Chancellor for Philanthropic and Alumni Engagement; this position will oversee all aspects of the planning, implementation, and execution of a comprehensive, coordinated fundraising program.
Position requirements include proven success in major gifts, comprehensive campaigns and annual fund management. Experience at the executive and/or supervisory level in a development or fundraising operation is required.
This position will serve as the key advisor and expert to the Athletic Director for all philanthropic and alumni relations matters.
Responsibilities also include directing and overseeing all aspects of the major and annual gift fundraising program (prospect management from identification through stewardship, events, communications, social media, and volunteer management) for endowment, programmatic, and capital needs for a department that comprises 19 varsity sports as well as University Band, Cheerleading, and Dance; managing an athletic department fundraising team; managing a portfolio of prospects; serving as a member of the Director of Athletics’ executive management team; creating and fostering relationships with coaches and other Athletics’ staff whose work impacts fundraising efforts; managing the Champions Advisory Board, and fostering relationships across the University of Pittsburgh. Th e candidate must demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Specific Priorities: 1. Securing capital gifts for Victory Heights, the most extensive facilities project in Pitt’s history, comprising three major facilities and other critical upgrades to support comprehensive excellence across all sports, band, cheerleading, and dance 2. Growing Pitt Student-Athlete Success annual fundraising to raise gifts for overall student-athlete support (academic support, scholarships, training, health, and wellness) 3. Leveraging new and existing donor recognition tools to build long-term relationships with donors 4. Carrying a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects 5. Manage a staff of 13 professionals including fundraisers, operations, signature events, and donor experience, and annual giving 6. Creating a sustainable fundraising model that achieves short- and long-term outcomes in support of all Pitt Athletics’ priorities 7. Serve as the lead representative of Pitt Athletics development across the University, and create opportunities for collaboration to secure the highest possible gifts for Pitt Athletics and Pitt
6-9 years of experience at the executive and/or supervisory level in a development and/or fundraising campaign setting. Experience with and understanding of databases, pipelines, performance tracking, and other metric measurement processes. Equivalent education and experience will be accepted.
