Job Summary
Job Duties:
Administration - Specific duties include: The management, administration, and implementation of all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Diving Safety Program and the operational goals and mandates established by the Director of Diving & Water Safety and the Diving Safety Control Board; to supervise and support scientific diving conducted under the auspices of ; to organize and implement the diving equipment maintenance program; to manage, administer, and participate in campus-wide scientific diver training and certification; to participate as an instructor in the for-credit scientific diver training courses offered through the university; establishing and maintaining program involvement with other organizations involved in scientific diving and water related research; providing timely and accurate reports; managing program budget; and maintaining and analyzing data specific to Diving Safety.
Training/Teaching – Specific duties include: planning, arranging for, and/or conducting continuing education activities for program staff and program participants (program participants include faculty, staff, students, visiting scientists, and volunteers involved in scientific diving, water-related research, and recreational diving under University auspices); training scientific divers; developing training materials for, and teaching COAS 6000, “Shipboard and Underwater Research Techniques”; assisting with the instruction of Health and Human Performance SCUBA courses as required by student/instructor ratios and program needs; evaluating the effectiveness of training events; and providing documentation and reports as required.
Research/Research Support – Specific duties include: participation in a variety of scientific diving research projects as a diver, a diving safety supervisor and/or a researcher; assisting in the planning and execution of scientific diving and water-related research projects; providing expertise and technical support; and conducting research and projects in support of scientific diving, water -related research, diving training, and diving safety.
Outreach – Specific duties include: making public appearances; participation in program related activities at the local, regional, national, and international level; and development of promotional materials and programs.
