Public Relations Manager

Job Summary
The Seattle Storm is a professional basketball franchise that is looking for a
motivated, energetic and dedicated professional to work as its public relations
manager.
The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with development and execution of strategies for year-round positive
media coverage for team, management, and overall business initiatives
Assist with facilitation and management of all media relations and
communications needs of Storm personnel
Assist with management and preparation and oversight for Storm press
conferences including messaging, scripts for spokespersons, on-site logistics, and
post-conference coverage
Oversee development and execution of Storm Executive Speakers Board
Prepare all communications documents related to announcement and/or breaking
news, including press releases, talking points, fan and partner communications
Provide daily support for Storm coaches and players including attending all team
games and practices
Manage media access to all team personnel
Prepare spokespersons as needed on a wide range of issues; serve as
organization spokesperson as designated
Assist with development of a crisis communications plan and manage execution
of communications strategies in response to potential crises
Work closely with broadcast partners to drive positive coverage and to increase
exposure
Develop and strengthen relationships with sports and non-sports reporters and
editors
Assist with development and manage execution of department business plan and
operating budget (resource allocation)
Supervise PR support staff which may include part-time staff, game night staff
and interns
Manage production of all Storm publications including media guide and game day
roster
Manage game day media including player and coach availability, injury reports,
media seating, media meals, credentials, game notes
Travel with team to all away games including pre-season, regular season and
playoffs
Collaborate with other departments to develop and/or enhance CR programs,
events and promotions that increase and drive value to current and prospective
corporate partners
Optimize coverage and promotion of CR events; support efforts to develop and
drive content for web site and media coverage
Desired Qualifications:
5-7 years of public relations and/or communications experience
NBA/WNBA experience preferred
Solid record of developing and managing strategic communications strategies and
garnering media coverage
Proven relationship building skills; positive and outgoing personality
Strong and diverse writing skills (AP writing style and feature writing)
Experience developing and managing community outreach strategies
Program management experience
Strong presentation and public speaking skills
Experience working with non-profit and community-based organizations
Proven relationship building skills; positive and outgoing personality
Experience managing staff
Available to work evenings and weekends, occasionally on short notice
Bachelors degree required
