Retention Counselor

Job Summary

The Retention Counselor provides academic and support services for student-athletes at Florida State University. The position supports an integrated service delivery model to boost engagement, progress, and success. It monitors the student experience to ensure progression towards graduation leads to career or graduate school goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Administer advising and student success initiatives to support student-athlete persistence.
2. Help students develop sound instructional and study skills that perpetuate academic success.
3. Assist athletics office with compliance on NCAA rules.
4. Mentor assigned students and assist them in selecting and declaring a major.
5. Monitor assigned student progress and intervene as needed with students in academic difficulty, referring students to university resources as needed.
