Job Summary
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coaches and instructs, on and off the water, varsity and novice athletes.
- Independently and collaboratively runs workouts, drills, and manages practice progression from start to finish.
- Instructs athletes in physical execution of the sport of rowing.
- Provides athletes with clear and constructive feedback.
- Meets with athletes to review goals, including academic, athletic, and personal.
- Engages in regatta travel.
- Manages specific responsibilities as outlined below for the team and for particular boats at competitive and training events.
- Coordinates food for student-athletes with parents for competitive events as well as training trips.
- Assists with setting up hotels, food and travel arrangements. Maintains program budget.
- Works closely with Head Coach and Athletic Business Office regarding expenses, including requesting and attaining travel advances for team travel, recruiting travel, and recruiting visits, and reconcile advances in ChromeRiver; and manages funds on road and recruiting trips to ensure funding remains available throughout the trip.
- Collaborates with the coaching staff to maintain, repair, or replace, equipment for the team including but not limited to: racing shells, oars, riggers, ergometers, boat trailers, coaching launches.
- Travels to events designed to instruct and inform professional development. Brings new information back to share with the coaching staff and team as applicable.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- A combination of 3-5 years of experience in rowing and/or coaching, either Juniors or intercollegiate rowing, is required.
- Demonstrable experience with effective and successful prior coaching is required.
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours and weekends is required.
- Pennsylvania Boating License and First Aid, CPR, AED Certification or ability to obtain these certifications within 30 days of hire.
Preferred qualifications:
- USRowing Level 1 or 2 coaching certification.
- Preference given to candidates with experience competing and/or coaching at the NCAA D1 level, or at a highly competitive collegiate club program.
