The market of college coaching is extremely competitive and requires specific steps to stand out among others. If you're considering becoming a college coach, you must attend a college or university for at least four years, earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, fitness, nutrition, sports management, or sports medicine. The majority of college team coaches also have prior coaching experience beforehand or experience playing the sport.

Coaches must be able to handle public opinion. Coaches must also have excellent communication skills when mentoring an entire team.

All college basketball coaches must acquire a bachelor’s degree in a field related to sports or coaching, and they must have extensive knowledge of the game. You will need to be able to teach others how to play the sport, come up with strategies, and understand the fundamentals. College basketball coaches typically have a background of the game by experience.

A basketball coach typically works on developing young athletes into talented players, which doesn’t come easy. They must have a proven set of skills, such as communication and leadership skills.

The Athletic Director oversees all aspects of the athletic program, will vary depending on the size of the institution and sports programs. Many Athletic Directors have completed their bachelor’s degree in fields such as education, kinesiology, or sports administration. Some jobs require potential employees to obtain a master’s degree, as well. A variety of skills are needed to become an athletic director, most commonly communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Effective communication skills are a must for being a director. You will need to be able to communicate with the people you are working with as well as being able to listen and ensure everyone understands the goal. Athletic directors and referees must work with each other as much as athletes work with their teammates. Whether you are working with trainers or sponsors, the goal is to make sure the performance is above standard. Being an athletic director involves dealing with multiple clients and their own personal records. It is important that you be organized and adjust your time accordingly.
