Job Summary

Milwaukee Recreation is seeking a highly motivated and hardworking individual to assist with the coordination of a comprehensive youth sports program throughout the city of Milwaukee. Primary responsibilities include the development and oversight of instructional sports activities and leagues; the hiring, supervision and training of approximately 200 game officials and part-time staff on an annual basis; management of supplies and equipment; collaboration with school officials, community partners, coaches, and parents in the delivery of sports programming; and the planning and implementation of special events.  

Milwaukee Recreation manages a network of more than 900 school-based elementary and middle school sports teams on an annual basis across 11 sports including basketball, cheerleading, cross country, flag football, soccer (indoor and outdoor), softball, t-ball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.  If you are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of urban youth through sports, possess strong organizational skills, and are committed to promoting positive youth development, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity. 

Salary Range: $60,209-$86,470

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited college or university in recreation management, sport administration, physical education, sports and fitness management, education, or related field.  A combination of education and experience will be considered. 
  • Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience planning, coordinating, and implementing youth sports programs and leagues for a large agency.  Equivalent part-time experience and/or relevant certifications will be considered. 
  • Supervision of part time staff.  
  • Experience delivering services in an urban environment preferred.

 


Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Properly insured vehicle for job-related travel.
     

Responsibilities

  • Ability to plan and administer youth sports programming, leagues, and special events.  
  • Knowledge of player and coach recruitment and retention techniques.
  • Knowledge of personnel management, including employee selection, supervision, evaluation, and training.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, sports coordinators, school leaders, community partners, media, and the general public.
  • Ability to facilitate both in-person and online meetings, including the preparation of agendas, and writing of minutes.
  • Ability to secure facilities for sport activities.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification, Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP), and/or Certified Youth Sports Administrator certification within first year of employment.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Applies diversity and inclusion ideals in all aspects of practice.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs for a culturally, physically, and economically diverse audience.
  • Ability to solve problems and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of budget planning.
  • Ability to use technology, including sports league software, to achieve efficiencies, share information, and expand public awareness and support.
