Specific Functions/Activities Summary
The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG) is a world leader in live sports and entertainment with a portfolio of legacy sports teams, exclusive entertainment productions and celebrated venues.
MAIN DUTIES/FUNCTIONS: In order of importance, list the main duties and functions of this position with the anticipated approximate percentage of time devoted to each such function or duty.
- Responsible for the supervision of all the building trades (ie. laborers, custodians, electricians, engineers) during overnight event changeovers and post-event arena and theater cleaning.
- Oversee the shift-by-shift scheduling of the full-time and part-time union and non-union laborers.
- Responsible for the distribution, inventory, and maintenance of the changeover and cleaning crew’s tools and supplies.
- Communicate, coordinate, and directly oversee the execution of event requirements scheduled to be completed overnight.
- Track the scheduling and coding of the laborer department hours against internal labor codes, work orders, and event budgets.
- Responsible for preventative maintenance programs for all changeover and cleaning equipment and machines.
- Work in conjunction with People Practices maintaining an accurate/updated listing of union and part time disciplinary notifications.
- Perform routine building inspections in the arena and theater.
- Train and supervise both full-time and part-time union and non-union staff responsible for event changeovers and building cleaning.
- Partner with key building operations staff to support overnight project work and routine maintenance.
- Work closely with the custodial department to create efficiencies in arena and theater cleaning.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: Briefly describe the educational background, licenses, certifications, job-related experience, knowledge, skills or abilities necessary to perform the job and preferred relevant experience. Note, this information will be used to create the job posting.
Ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of supervisory facility changeover experience, arena back of house environment experience, facility management experience, along with people management experience, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to work professionally as a team player in a fast-paced deadline orientated environment. Prior Arena/Theatre or similar experience and experience in CBA work rules and scheduling procedures preferred. Must be able to manage heavy volume of staff and manager interaction and multi task in an extremely critical environment. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-3 years of facility management experience with direct responsibility of supervising arena and theater cleaning and changeover functions.
- Ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple tasks while under tight deadlines and financial constraints.
- Must have previous experience managing union workforce (Required)
- Ability to work weekends and holidays in addition to working the regular night shift.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to plan, analyze, and manage material and labor budgets.
- Must be highly responsive to emergencies in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Possess exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills necessary
- Must have the ability to work independently when necessary, and use sound business judgment.
- Ability to work am, pm, overnight, holidays as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be detail-oriented, organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Demonstrate integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values, and principles while ensuring the upmost consistency.
- Experience in logistics in the live entertainment or sports environment or similar industry.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while managing multiple tasks.
- Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment.
- High written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong knowledge of union labor work rules union CBAs is required.
- Experience in metrics and/or data reporting.
Education
Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred. Educational requirements may differ from job to job based on the role.EEO Statement
