Job Description
The new Data Scientist, Retail Analytics will provide leadership in the development and execution of Retail and Customer analytics to support decision-making across VF functions and brands. He/she will be accountable for consulting with the VF’s coalition businesses to assess and address information needs, and for managing, analyzing and synthesizing analytics and insights to influence decisions and action planning. He/she will lead analytic efforts related to demand forecasting, customer segmentation, direct marketing, product affinity modeling, assortment optimization, and various other areas to help drive our businesses.
This individual will operate across a highly-matrixed, multinational organization and help drive the organization's strategic advantage through more in-depth analysis of structured and unstructured data available across VF Corporation’s brands. Someone with an inherent passion for data and data driven thinking, adept at extracting patterns from volumes of data to drive strategy and operational efficiencies. Additionally, he/she will tasked with working with the Head of Retail and Customer Analytics and other key stakeholders to build out the analytic capabilities within VF Corporate and Brand teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Development of Advanced Analytics practice: In cooperation with the Data Science Director develop best in class advanced analytics practice for VF and drive analytic culture both corporately and within the brands
- Brand Consulting: Perform ongoing analytic projects in support of brand strategies and tactics. Topics will include, but not limited to direct marketing optimization, incorporation of unstructured information, sales attribution, ROI analysis
- Support BI Reporting: In collaboration with brand and D2C leadership, support the development of BI dashboarding to highlight KPI across brands, locations and channels. Work will include multi-source data integration and development in BI tool (Cognos, Tableau)
- Support Process Improvement: Bring industry best practices to analytic processes to create time efficiencies, so team can broaden efforts to other focus areas
- Data Infrastructure: In collaboration with infrastructure in IT teams, make recommendations for data architecture Strategy
- Tool Assessment: Develop and deploy analytical tools and data science techniques to analyze complex data sets.
- Monitor trends in data science and alternative sources to ensure that VF Corporation is in tune with best in class tools and techniques
Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience in market research/insights/ analytics, competitive intelligence or other similar function with demonstrated ability to manage function in a complex environment with multiple constituencies
• BA/BS required (Masters strongly preferred)
• Deep expertise in complex modeling and analytical methodology including, but not exclusively, longitudinal analyses, multi-level modeling and multivariate analyses of variance
• Highly analytical, motivated, decisive thought leader with excellent managerial skills.
• Strong understanding of retail and apparel best practices and trends
• Ability to influence and work through others to effectively navigate matrixed organization while ensuring that necessary stakeholders are informed
• Strong communication skills that is able to educate and influence management and senior leaders to act in a desired manner through written and verbal communication.
• Ability to simplify highly complex analyses and output into terms that are easily accessible and impactful in both written and verbal formats
• Future-oriented thinker with expertise in external practices and trends
• High level of analytical and negotiating skills as evidence by high intelligence, strong financial and analytical capabilities and the proven ability to develop, sell and drive suitable partnerships, alliances, or other transactions to closure
• Demonstrates a sense of calmness under periods of uncertainty or change while dealing with stress in a manner that sets the necessary tone for the team and function
• High character and integrity, is consistent and acts in line with a clear and visible set of values and beliefs
• Global outlook with sensitivity and awareness of social and cultural differences
