Job Summary


Essential Duties Summary

Job Function Areas:

a. Recreational/Intramural Sports

  • Develop intramural schedules for approximately 10-14 intramural sports.
  • Prepare policies for teams and individuals.
  • Schedule games and prepare tournament brackets.
  • Train and supervise student supervisors.
  • Oversee training of referees and student workers.
  • Supervise intramural games.
  • Purchase, inventory, and maintain proper equipment used in intramural competition.
  • Develop and co-sponsor programs around the wellness model with religious life/campus ministry, health services, counseling, student engagement, athletics and other departments across campus, including programs focused on alcohol, drugs and substance use/abuse.

b. Wellness Center

  • Supervise daily operations of the University Wellness Center.
  • Train and supervise student workers.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment in the Wellness Center.

c. E-Sports

  • Develops recruiting strategy for a varsity level E-Sports team to achieve recruiting goals as pre-approved with the Director of Athletics.
  • Ensures that the competitive varsity level club program meets annual squad size number.
  • Work with Athletic Director and Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective student-athletes, both incoming freshmen and transfers to McMurry University. Included are off-campus contacts and evaluations as well as serving as College representative during on-campus prospect visits.
  • Ensures that program recruitment activities adhere to University and NACE Policies and Procedures.
  • Schedules and coaches intercollegiate matches and tournaments.
  • Schedules practice preparation, and schedules the training lab/arena with time for walk-ins interested in gaming.
  • Must have ability to operate computer equipment in E-Sports Lab/Arena including knowledge of game platforms and supporting websites. Ability to troubleshoot equipment for optimal gaming experience.
  • Must have gaming knowledge and competitive experience with multiplayer video games. Knowledge and experience of ESports games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, or similar games.
  • Must demonstrate a vision for a collegiate E-Sports program at McMurry University.

Administrative

  • The Director is a member of the Student Affairs and Athletic Department professional staff and works to develop opportunities for student growth and effective department operations.
  • The Director will be required to work some evenings and some weekends.
  • Assist with New Student Orientation Programs during the summer months.
  • Must be an effective collaborator and assist with inter-departmental projects.
  • Participate in University and departmental committee work and projects, providing leadership when appropriate.
  • Assist with the coordination of student awards ceremonies.
  • Monitor operations budgets for each area mentioned above.
  • Promote enjoyment, competition, and fellowship in both intramural sports and competitive E-gaming.
  • Complete other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Students & Campus Life and/or the Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required in health, wellness, physical education, recreational sports, coaching or related field with a minimum of one to two years' experience in these areas. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, gaming systems and understanding of assessment and research methods helpful. Ability to work evenings and weekends is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree preferred in health, wellness, physical education, recreational sports, coaching or related field with a minimum of one to two years' experience in these areas.

Prior supervision of paraprofessional staff at university level or equivalent and strong skills in written and oral communication, group facilitation, and program presentation preferred.
