Job Summary
DUTIES:
1.Student-Athlete Development (55%)
- Directing and supervising all activities relative to the teaching, training and skill development of student-athletes in preparation for competition
- Provide technical skill instruction at practices, conduct individual training sessions, scouting of opponents, and team & individual video analysis to aid in growth and skill development of student-athletes
- Develop and execute practice plans to prepare the team physically and mentally for competition
- Assist in student-athlete preparation for competition by contributing strategies and aiding in daily preparation of organized and effective practices
- Conduct individual meetings with student-athletes to provide on-going assessment and aid in the development of their academic, athletic and personal health and well-being
- Set academic goals and monitor academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring student-athletes meet eligibility standards & progress towards a degree
- Inform and direct student-athletes to college academic support resources
- Monitor and assist in the rehabilitation of injured student-athletes as directed by Team Physicians and Sports Medicine staff
- Coordinate with Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning staff to organize and monitor the physical conditioning of student-athletes and utilization of Volt S&C software.
- Model behavior which supports healthy social, behavioral, emotional, ethical, and intellectual development of student-athletes
- Establish and maintain team policy and protocol for the day-to-day program operations
- Ensure student-athletes practice good sportsmanship, maintain poise and self-control, and abide by team, athletic department, MEC & NCAA policies
- Contributes to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics
2.Recruitment of Student-Athletes (25%)
- Recruit student-athletes who are committed to a liberal arts education, desire a small school atmosphere, strive for success academically, serve others, exhibit high character in competition and in life, are thoroughly vetted through coaches, parents, and if possible in-person review.
- Recruit student-athletes to meet college expectations for annual roster size in support of the college strategic plan and in compliance with college, MEC & NCAA policies and procedures
- Develop and manage a recruiting strategic plan including: promotion of program; development of recruiting pool through personal/coaching contacts, high school visits, attendance of showcases and tournaments; hosting prospect/ID camps and any other resources; identification and assessment of student-athletes; recruiting communication and campus visits
- Maintain all recruit management and interaction in athletic department recruiting management software system
- Coordinate, conduct and oversee campus visits and ensure a positive and safe environment during the visit
3.Internal/External Relations (10%)
- Work closely with Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance on all eligibility and compliance procedures for the college, MEC, and NCAA
- Assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine with ongoing care, strength & conditioning, and injury prevention to ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes
- Maintain consistent communication with the faculty athletic representative to serve in tandem as the academic liaisons to faculty and academic support
- Assist the Assistant Athletic Director for External Communications with public relations efforts of the program including student-athlete biographical information, statistics, releases, feature story opportunities, and recommendations of student-athletes for awards and special recognition
- Assist game-site supervisors with pre-game setup of course including benches, sound system, locker rooms, etc.
- Utilization of Athletics operations management software (prospect package, recruiting travel, official visits, etc.)
- Build campus community engagement with sport program
- Represent the College and Athletic Department and participate in various community engagement projects and coordinate with external organizations to develop community engagement activities for the student-athletes
- Welcoming host to visiting teams, coaches, officials, and spectators
- Participate in the College, MEC, and NCAA professional development opportunities when appropriate
- Actively seek opportunities to serve on college, MEC, and NCAA committees
- Attend meetings of various campus departments and organizations to present information and represent intercollegiate athletics internally interacting with admission, financial planning, student life, alumni relations, advancement, marketing/communication, maintenance, etc.
- Assist alumni relations in promotion of college and athletics including student-athlete alumni
- Inform staff members of sport legislative changes and rule revisions
- Represent program and propose policy changes at the MEC and NCAA
- Discipline student-athletes when necessary
- Recruit and hire assistant coaches
- Continually mentor assistant coaches in organizational practices, recruiting, coaching, team communication, fundraising, student-athlete issues, professional conduct, etc.
- Provide on-going training and professional development to assistant coaches
- Assist in athletic events management, including game site administration
- Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development seminars, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the Director of Athletics
- Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds
- Seeks opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive setting with a willingness to change for continual improvement
4.Financial Management (10%)
- Maintain budget operations and follow college expenditure procedures
- Monitor athletic scholarship awards in both short-term and long-term
- Monitor budget throughout the year with the Director of Athletics and ensure expenditures maintain a balanced budget
- Coordinate team travel arrangements including reservation and operation of vehicles, lodging, and meals with approval of the Director of Athletics
- Prepare and submit proposed annual budget
- Coordinate fundraising efforts following college and department policies (i.e.fundraising, donations, etc.)
- Responsible for inventory of college-owned equipment and apparel Accountability/Decision Making Authority
- Management and oversight of program fiscal resources
- Establishment and maintenance of effective and efficient processes
- Effective representation of the College in dealing with a variety of audiences, both on and off campus
- Establishment and maintenance of effective communications and communication channels within the college
- Communicate and support the mission, vision and strategic plan
- Meet fiscal and performance goals as established by the Director of Athletics Performance Competencies
- Skill and proficiency in carrying out assignments.
- Possesses skills and knowledge to perform the job completely.
- Skill at planning, organizing and prioritizing workload.
- Proficiency at improving work methods and procedures as a means toward greater efficiency.

Qualifications
- Two or more years of successful volleyball collegiate coaching and recruiting experience
- Candidate must possess a commitment to the integrated role athletics plays in an institution of higher education
- Ability to adhere to and ensure compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations and ability to lead and nurture a diverse student and administrative population
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently
- Ability to multi-task, work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong oral, presentation, and written communication skills including the ability to communicate to students, parents, staff, faculty and external constituents of the college
- Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to make effective decisions based on facts and sound judgment
- Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel, and available technological integration for athletics (i.e. recruiting, on-field instruction, social media integration, student-athlete services, etc.)
- Drive passenger vans and/or College vehicles for team travel or off-campus home events as directed
- Background check and drug screen required
