Job Summary

 

SUMMARY:

The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible to the Co-Directors of Athletics for the care and well being of varsity student athletic participants. This includes the prevention of injuries, intervention when injuries occur, obtaining/creating protocols for proper treatment of injuries, follow-up programs, and rehabilitation. The Head Athletic Trainer supervises and coordinates training of all staff and athletic training students to provide medical support services for all University varsity athletics. This position requires training and certification in the evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for the overall organization, administration, and success of the athletic training program at the University. This includes supervision of associate and assistant athletic trainers and athletic training students.
  • Supervise staff and athletic training students. This specifically includes training of protocols on injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation
  • emergency action plan
  • assigning of primary sports coverage to assistant athletic trainer
  • promote professionalism
  • Educate and counsel student athletes as well as student athletic trainers
  • Provide practice and game coverage of varsity athletic sportsSupervise and coordinate medical examinations and conditions with team physicians
  • Coordinate, evaluate and provide rehabilitation/treatment/functional testing programs with physician's recommendations for injured athletes
  • Observe practice sessions of varsity sports, as needed, and discuss possible modifications of schedules or routines with coaching staff to reduce risk of injuries
  • Supervise, instruct and participate in the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all varsity sports
  • Maintain medical records, athlete insurance information, and medical expenses billed to Athletic Insurance
  • Coordinate the planning and administration of the pre-participation physical exams for all teams.
  • Teach assigned classes
