Job Summary

Responsibilities will include overall direction and oversight of the intercollegiate sport program including, but not limited to, the recruitment of quality student-athletes; teaching and instruction of skills and techniques inherent in the highest level of competitive play; scheduling; organizing and conducting practices/competitions; budget management; overseeing student-athletes' academic progress; fundraising; provide management and direction to assistant coaches and team personnel; community involvement; and compliance with NCAA, GLIAC and  University rules and regulations all while incorporating the department's strategic goals and on-going initiatives.

Education
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.

Experience
Proven record of recruiting highly competitive and academically prepared student-athletes.
Proven record of success measured in competition play.

Knowledge and specialization in intercollegiate Fencing coaching required.

Proven ability to work to direct, manage and prepare an intercollegiate athletics Fencing team.

Must have strong team-building and management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with various university constituents.

Must have ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner.

Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must have demonstrated experience in a Fencing program development, management and leadership.

Special Requirements:

Qualified applicants must have the availability to work evenings and weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

SUPERVISORY SKILLS - Ability to set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring skills.
BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE - Knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA II rules, policies and procedures.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
TEAM LEADERSHIP SKILLS - Ability to direct, manage and prepare an intercollegiate athletics team.
PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS - Decision making and creative problem solving skills to identify and pursue development opportunities and respond to emergency situations.
ANALYTICAL SKILLS - Judgment and analytic skills to maintain facilities and equipment, plan preventive maintenance.
TEAMWORK- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units.
