Job Summary

About the Position:

Responsibilities:

Intercollegiate Sport Programs:

  • Responsible for the day to day administrative and competitive supervision of the various intercollegiate sports teams/programs;
  • Manage and monitor all aspects of assigned sports, including, but not limited to:         
    • Performance;
    • Athlete recruitment and experience;
    • Management, development and evaluation of coaches;
    • Practice and game scheduling, game contracts and competitive performance;
    • Budget/finance and travel;
    • Event production.
  • External relations - work collaboratively with external relations staff to ensure sports are meeting fundraising goals and utilizing effective marketing and communications strategies;
  • Act as a lead sport supervisor, developing other sport supervisors and create a pipeline for future sport supervisors;
  • Schedule, plan and conduct coaches' meetings and staff meetings, as appropriate;
  • Ensure sport programs' compliance with NCAA, University, A10, departmental policies and procedures;
  • Assist Athletic Director in annual overall evaluation of the sport program(s);
  • Develop and prepare for the Director, periodic quality assurance and improvement reports;
  • Work collaboratively with AD, Intercollegiate HR on assigned head coach contracts and initiate athletically related bonuses;
  • As a member of the Athletic Director's senior team collaborate on and assist with department planning and development, as requested;
  • Represent the department with regional and national organizations (i.e., NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10), NACDA) when assigned by the Director of Athletics.
  • Represent the department at development, fundraising and community relations events to further Athletic Department mission.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree;
  • Substantial legal experience, NCAA Division I compliance related experience on campus, at the NCAA national office or in a conference office setting;
  • Excellent working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules;
  • Technologically proficient and have prior experience or familiarity with NCAA applications (e.g., LSDBi, RSRO, CAi);
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships (e.g., with coaches, student-athletes, faculty, staff and the community);
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and multiple competing priorities;
  • Ability to travel domestically (and occasional international) travel for games and events;
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills with demonstrated sound judgment evaluating, interpreting and applying policies and procedures with complex compliance issues;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to balance multiple projects;
  • Successful experience working in a collaborative and team oriented environment;
  • Ten plus years of relevant professional experience;
  • Experience in legal, sports management / administration / performance, higher education administration, collegiate athletic administration and/or Division 1 coaching.
