Job Summary

Sports Marketing Lead — Stanza

About Stanza

Stanza (https://stanzacal.com) is a calendar platform that helps consumers follow what they care about and helps creators reach and retain their audiences through reliable, high-quality calendar experiences. We operate with a small team, strong systems, and a focus on trust, reliability, and long-term value.

What we do:

Stanza keeps sports fans on top of the moments that matter — schedule releases, season starts, playoffs, finals — sent straight to their calendar. Our emails are short, to-the-point, and triggered by every major sport moment on the calendar.

The challenge:

Sports fans are flooded with information. ESPN, The Athletic, Bleacher Report, league apps, Twitter, group chats — the same news lands in their inbox from a dozen places. The question isn't whether they'll hear about Final Four bracket day or the NFL schedule drop. The question is why they'd open our email about it over the other ten that day.

That's where this role lives.

What you'd own:

Bringing voice and character to our emails so they're worth opening. Not promotional. Not hype-y. Not AI-flavored. The kind of writing where a fan reads the subject line and thinks "yeah I want to know what they have to say about it." Short copy, sharp takes, real sports fluency. The difference between "NBA Finals start tonight" and a line that makes someone smile and tap.

The cadence is set — campaigns and audiences are scheduled in the system already. Your job is the creative: making each email feel like it came from someone who actually watches the games and gets why this moment matters.

What we measure:

- Open rate — are people choosing to read?

- Click-through — does the copy earn the next action?

- Calendar adds + Stanza+ conversions — does the voice translate to value for the user and us?

You should be:

- 5-7+ years marketing copy at a sports/fan-facing brand (sportsbook, sports media, fantasy, team marketing, athlete brand)

- Comfortable working with remote teams. This is a 100% remote role.

- Genuinely fluent in 2-3 sports — you actually watch, you know the storylines before they're storylines

- Bringing writing samples with a recognizable voice

- Senior enough to take the system as it is, ship great copy with light direction, iterate based on results

What we're not looking for:

- Strategy work on cadence/audience/segmentation — that's set

- Long-form content or brand work — these emails are tight

- Generalist marketing — we want sports-native, not multi-vertical

The Thesis:

The moments are everywhere. The voice is the differentiator. We're hiring for the craft of making each email worth a fan's attention in a crowded inbox.

Compensation: This is a part-time contract with hourly payment starting at $25/hr. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
