Head Varsity Football Coach

Job Summary

Okeechobee High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Head Varsity Football Coach who will also serve as a member of our instructional staff. The ideal candidate will be committed to building a competitive football program while developing student-athletes through leadership, discipline, and character. This position includes teaching responsibilities during the school day and leading all aspects of the varsity football program, including player development, program culture, and community engagement. Candidates should have a strong commitment to supporting students both academically and athletically while representing the tradition and pride of Okeechobee High School.

Job Requirements: Florida Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain a Florida Teaching Certificate

Duties Include:

Coaching & Program Leadership

• Lead and oversee all aspects of the varsity football program, including planning, organization, and game management.

• Develop and implement effective practice plans, game strategies, and player development programs.

• Build and maintain a positive, disciplined team culture focused on sportsmanship, character, and accountability.

• Supervise and support assistant coaches and coordinate with the entire football coaching staff.

Student-Athlete Development

• Promote academic success and monitor student-athlete eligibility and progress.

• Mentor student-athletes and support their personal growth, leadership skills, and character development.

• Encourage strength, conditioning, and off-season development programs.

Program Management

• Coordinate team schedules, travel, equipment needs, and game preparation.

• Ensure compliance with all district, conference, and Florida High School Athletic Association rules and regulations.

• Maintain accurate records for athletes, including physicals, eligibility, and participation forms.

School & Community Engagement

• Promote the football program and build strong relationships with students, families, and the community.

• Support athletic department initiatives and collaborate with school administration and staff.

• Participate in fundraising, community events, and program outreach.

Teaching Responsibilities

• Serve as a classroom teacher during the school day and support the academic mission of the school.

• Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment that supports student success.
