Job Summary

 
Responsibilities:
Be the content leader and voice behind all things Islanders social media.  This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Social media platform management and strategy

  • Social media publishing

  • Build and maintain a weekly/monthly social media calendar

  • Social media content strategy, development and execution

  • Manage the NHL’s Live Social Contributor at Islander home games

  • Manage social listening policies with a focus on customer service, sentiment, trending topics 

  • Weekly and monthly social media reporting

  • Monitor and track consumption trends across Islanders social platforms

  • Collaborate with Sponsorship, Ticketing, Premium, Marketing, Game presentation, hockey operations, and other departments as necessary

  • Serve as a liaison between NHL social media and other NHL team social accounts, managing sponsored content requirements, league event coverage, etc.

  • Regular audit and sharing of best-in-class content across sports social media to serve as learning for the Islanders

  • Ensure content and strategy adheres to the Islanders’ brand guidelines and communications policies

 
Requirements:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, social strategy or related field

  • 4 to 6 years of experience with a heavy focus on social media

  • Demonstrated understanding of the sports media landscape and ability to abide by team public relations strategies and policies 

  • Expert in social media content and strategy. Full proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and emerging platforms like Tik Tok Understanding of changing social environment and emerging technologies and platforms

  • Expert in content publishing best practices and ideation/development/execution of content platforms

  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite and strong knowledge specifically of Photoshop and After Effects

  • Track Maven experience is a plus, but not mandatory

  • Forward thinking and innovative

  • Attention to detail with an ability to operate independently and within brand guidelines

  • Superior verbal/written communication and time management skills

  • Ability to work nights, weekends and events as needed 

  • Some travel required

  • Previous experience in digital and social at a sports team is a plus, but not mandatory

  • Previous experience in digital and social at an established content publisher is a plus, but not mandatory
