Job Summary


Requirements

  1. Recruits, retains, supervises, and coaches NCAA Division I swimming student-athletes
  2. Follows all institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
  3. Reporting to the Head Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Coach, the Assistant Coach has additional responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
  • Identifies and evaluates prospective student-athletes.
  • Analyzes and determines abilities and potential (both athletically and academically) of prospective student-athletes.
  • Recommend/determine which prospective student-athletes should be the focus of the team's resources and time to recruit.
  • Communicates with prospects.
  • Creates and implements effective game, practice, and conditioning plans for the student-athletes.
  • Organizing, preparing and conducting individual and team practices and training.
  • Develops effective drills and strategies for player improvement.
  • Monitoring strength, conditioning, and speed workout programs.
  • Creates and administers the off-season training program.
  • Reviews, digests, and analyzes data and evaluations to determine strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams and players.
  • Works with different areas within the Athletics Department.
  • Ensures fiscal responsibility by administering the programs' budget.
  • Represents the sports program to various institutional and external entities.
  • Organizes many aspects of the annual team banquet.
  • Advises and counsels student-athletes regarding their compliance with all rules and regulations.
  • Provides support and advice for student-athletes on personal and emotional issues.
  • Works to develop leadership skills, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct among student-athletes.
  • Attends all compliance seminars and reviews, being accountable for  rules and regulations.
  • Submits documentation as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of coaching and/or playing experience, preferably at the Division I level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of intercollegiate swimming & diving.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment, academic eligibility requirements, and retention of student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of athletics recruitment methods and techniques with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to create a database for all prospects and make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with the ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record and the ability to be insured.
  • Proficient in computer use and relevant Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to be available weekends and evenings.
  • Successful completion of a Background check as a condition of employment with University.
  • Recruiting software database experience preferred.
