Job Summary

Job Overview

  • Serves the 15 Division I sports programs will be housed in the athletic department and will report to the Athletic Director.
  • Design, organize, implement, facilitate, oversee and evaluate all facets of the Athletic Strength and Conditioning Program.
  • This includes the educational, monitoring and supervisory components as well as working within a shared facility.
  • Works closely with the equipment staff, sports medicine staff, and classified staff.
  • Will also work collaboratively with relevant constituent groups.
  • Serve in an advisory role to the Athletic Director in evaluating all aspects of strength and conditioning for all student-athletes and to provide insight into possible improvements that can be made for all.

Responsibilities

  • Inform and educate Athletic Department personnel, student-athletes and support staff regarding all policies and procedures integral to strength and conditioning.
  • Insure that they have collaborated with the Sports Medicine Staff to thoroughly design a coverage plan and emergency medical procedures for on and off-season conditioning and lifting.
  • Seek program input, design the programs by sport and gender, mentor and supervise the assistant and see that the strength and conditioning program is engaged and functioning at a high level.

Job Description

  • Overall Development of Strength and Conditioning Program .
  • Design, Implementation, and Supervision for Strength and Conditioning Programs in designated sports.
  • Determine sports that will be assigned to Head and Assistant Strength and Conditioning coaches.
  • Know NCAA and conference rules as they apply to training teams and individuals-in season and out.
  • Facilitate learning of proper lifting, spotting and safety techniques.
  • Attend one convention annually to update knowledge base.
  • Keep current records of all student-athletes that are training on a quarterly basis.
  • Develop communication system and schedule with the Sports Medicine Staff member assigned to each sport for updates on student-athletes ability to train/injuries.
  • Develop summer and off-season programs for designated sports.
  • Keep accurate records and supervision.
  • Communicate problems, issues and program improvement ideas involving the strength and conditioning area to the immediate supervisor and the Athletic Director.
  • Advertise for and utilize work-study student help.
  • Learn and research team and individual conditioning specific training methods and activities.
  • Meet with Head Coaches of designated sports to assess needs and plan programs.
  • Supervise assistant position and provide annual evaluation of assistant to immediate supervisor.
