Job Summary

 

Work Schedule:
PT; Monday-Friday, work schedule varies. Evening and weekend work required.
The position is currently Jan-May, with the possibility of ongoing employment.

 

General Description:
University is seeking an experienced coaching professional for the position of Head Coach for its Men’s Tennis program.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 


  • Provide leadership, organization and supervision for all aspects of the men’s tennis program to ensure a competitive and successful program following all NCAA Division III Northwest Conference and university rules and regulations.

  • Identify, attract, and matriculate outstanding student-athletes who demonstrate the ability to be academically and athletically successful.

  • Verify eligibility of student-athletes according to established university regulations.

  • Prepare and manage the men’s tennis budget following purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the University and athletic department.

  • Schedule all competitive events and complete all travel arrangements.

  • Coordinate all practice activities.

  • Coordinate off season training programs.

  • Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.

  • Hire, evaluate, and supervise assistant coaching staff.

  • Develop positive public relations with all internal and external constituents.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Clear understanding and knowledge of the sport of tennis to develop a competitive program.

  • Excellent organizational, planning, supervisory, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong recruiting, teaching, and coaching skills.

  • Computer literacy.

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of students, parents, alumni, faculty, departmental staff, administration, and the general public.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes and athletics alumni.

  • Clear understanding of and commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of athletics within a private, liberal arts university.

 

Required Qualifications:

 


  1. Bachelor’s degree.

  2. Two years of successful coaching experience.

  3. CPR/First Aid certification required and may be obtained on the job.

  4. Valid driver’s license (Must have had a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years).

  5. Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check, declaration regarding sexual misconduct, provide an original copy of their Driving record (5-year Employment Abstract) and pass PLU’s internal Driver’s Certification Training.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 


  • Master’s degree.

  • Previous coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level is highly desirable.
