Job Summary



Job Description:

  • Teach a variety of Physical Education/kinesiology, Wellness, and related courses to a diverse student population.
  • Perform coaching assignment including, but not limited to, supervision of student-athletes, organization of practices, involvement in public relations and the recruitment, retention, and matriculation of student-athletes according to the CCCAA constitution, the NCAA and NAIA transfer guidelines.
  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and serve as liaison with all student support services.
  • Perform fundraising activities in support of the women's softball program.
  • Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
  • Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.
  • Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
  • Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.
  • Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
  • Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and students.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the disabilities and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of students.
  • Represent the college in a professional manner as an intercollegiate athletic liaison with other educational institutions.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with high schools located within the college's designated recruiting area.
  • Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Primary Purpose:

  • Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive.
  • The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of softball coaching experience at the college level, the high school level, club level, or professional level.
  • Expertise to successfully prepare and coach a team at the intercollegiate level.
  • Commitment to the community college mission and objectives of providing instruction for students whose abilities and interests cover a wide range.
  • Expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Physical Education/Kinesiology, particularly as it relates to the relevance of physical education to students lives, interest, and communities; demonstrated ability to address equity gaps of racially minoritized groups within physical education; recent experience working with African Americans, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and other marginalized groups.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as well as a willingness to work in a team-oriented environment that values community.
  • Knowledge of coaching and managing team processes, recruiting, considerations and solutions at the college level.
  • Experience in distance education (e.g., online, hybrid, flipped, and web-enhanced courses).
  • Knowledge and/or experience developing and implementing diversity and inclusion in curriculum.
  • Knowledge of current innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.
  • Demonstrated pattern of recent participation in professional development activities.
