Job Summary

Graduate Assistant for Athletic Academic Services (2 Positions)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Athletic Academic Services is responsible for directly assisting the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and Student-Athlete Development with monitoring and evaluation of the academic performance of all student-athletes.
  • These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; successfully mentor academically at-risk athletes, monitor and evaluate academic eligibility and satisfactory progress of student-athletes, supervise study hall hours, and other duties as assigned. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours.

Graduate Assistant for Athletic Administration (1 Position)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Athletic Administration is responsible for directly assisting the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance with all aspects of the education, administrative oversight, and monitoring of coaches, staff, and student-athletes regarding NCAA Rules, and assisting the Director of Athletics with special projects.
  • These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; design, produce, and distribute rules education initiatives, monitor recruiting and practice logs, assist in initial eligibility certification, research of and completion of various interpretation, waiver, and infraction reports, assist with National Letter of Intent program, perform data entry, direct oversight of the student-athlete Fuel Zone station, and other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires the ability to work flexible hours.

Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications (2 Positions)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications is responsible for directly assisting the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications with the promotion/publicity of all Western Illinois University student-athletes and coaches.
  • These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; planning and implementing communications strategies for assigned sports, in-game activities with statistics, updating stats for website publishing, writing press releases, game notes, game programs, updating the department website, submitting honors for conference and national recognition, and other duties as assigned. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours.

Graduate Assistant for Athletic Training (1 Position)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Athletic Training is responsible for directly assisting the Director of Sports Medicine with providing first class healthcare to all Western Illinois student-athletes.
  • These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; maintaining proper medical records, coverage of practice/home/away events as assigned, treatment/rehabilitation of orthopedic and general medical injuries/illnesses, refer patients when appropriate to WIU team physicians/student health center, transport student-athletes to physician’s appointments as needed, serve as the primary contact for baseball, and other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires the ability to work flexible hours.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • Bachelor Degree in Athletic Training
  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer by July 2019
  • State of Illinois Licensure
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 25lbs. Ability to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time. Must be able to move around campus which includes gym, turf, fields. 

Graduate Assistant for Creative Design (1 Position)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Creative Design is responsible for directly assisting the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications with design, creation, development, and production of all multimedia projects.
  • These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; producing, filming, and editing video content, including features, interviews, highlight packages, and commercials for the department website, social media, and video boards.
  • This position is also responsible for the creation of all department social media graphics, print materials, and other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires the ability to work flexible hours.

Graduate Assistant for Facilities, Events, and Game Operations (1 Position)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Facilities, Events, and Game Operations is responsible for directly assisting the Assistant Director for External Engagement and Game Operations and the Manager of Equipment Operations with the management of game day and athletics facilities operations.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to; contacting and organizing game day staff, hosting visiting teams and officials, assisting in set-up and tear down of events, assisting with athletics facility scheduling, planning, maintenance and other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work flexible hours.

Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Promotions (1 Position)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Promotions is responsible for directly assisting the Assistant Athletic Director for External Engagement and Game Operations with implementing all aspects of the Western Illinois Athletics Marketing plan.
  • These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; working cooperatively with sponsors, overseeing game day promotions/events, maintaining advertising/promotion of events, and other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills to emcee in-game promotions and the ability to work flexible hours.

Graduate Assistant for Strength and Conditioning (2 Positions)

  • The position of Graduate Assistant for Strength and Conditioning is responsible for directly assisting the Director of Strength and Conditioning in all aspects of developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for all 19 Division I sport programs.
  • These responsibilities include, but are not limited to; implement strength and conditioning programs for assigned sport teams, coordinate times for assigned teams around class and team schedules in conjunction with weight room and strength staff, assist with and conduct periodic performance and strength testing, stay abreast of current trends in the field, and other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist coaching credential prior to employment and the ability to work flexible hours.
