Job Summary

Climbing is on the rise. In 2021, the sport made its debut at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and climbing gym participation is returning to pre-COVID levels. As a leader in the community, USA Climbing is the Olympic National Governing Body for the sport and develops the climbing disciplines of bouldering, lead and speed for youth, collegiate, paraclimbing and adult participants. USA Climbing is a member federation of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and hosts IFSC World Cups and sends elite athletes to participate in IFSC World Cups and World Championships. The organization is funded by members, donors, partners, and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee. We are searching for a talented and driven professional to help develop, manage and execute our marketing and communications efforts. This is a critical role and the team member will fulfill our mission and deliver brand and revenue objectives by supporting internal departments of membership, events and high performance, as well as external partners and the USA Climbing Foundation.


Our new teammate will manage and execute integrated marketing and communications across the entirety of marketing mix. Key job responsibilities include:


  • Lead our content creation, curation and calendar for website, social media and CRM
  • Activate and measure our commercial partner portfolio, which includes The North Face, YETI, Clif Bar and Petzl
  • Respond to inbound media requests and run proactive external media outreach
  • Oversee event and membership marketing
  • Build and protect the brand
  • Direct external contractors, agencies and vendors
  • Supervise other marketing and communications responsibilities as earned


To ensure a successful fit, we need a professional with the following skills and qualities:


  • Passion for sports and an understanding of the sports business; Olympic experience is preferred and climbing knowledge is valued but not required
  • Detail oriented with strong project management and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated, able to multi-task, prioritize, and proactively problem solve
  • High standard of execution, very strong work ethic and desire to learn and improve
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing and social media best practices and analytics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with website CMS and CRM platform (Constant Contact)
  • Command of MS Office programs
  • Basic design ability including Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or related field
  • Minimum two years of work experience in a related role

The position is based in beautiful Salt Lake City (required) and reports to the VP Marketing, Communications & Development. The role requires some travel, evening and weekend work. Events may require physical labor at times and ability to lift 50 lbs.
