Summary of the Position

The Dance Team Coach is responsible for the development of individual and team talent, overseeing dance instruction, and supervising activities related to weekly rehearsals and performances as scheduled. The Coach is also responsible for ensuring the team receives choreography/instruction for any new routines. In addition, the Coach should promote the Dance Team on campus, especially at athletic events, while encouraging the members to publicize the team in new and creative ways in order to expand membership.

Essential Functions

Coordinate weekly rehearsals.

Communicate regularly with membership and team leadership to ensure success of the team.

Provide for choreography needs of the team, either through direct choreography or by coordinating and obtaining outside choreography.

Support the recruitment and publicity efforts of the team.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience Requirements)

Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum of 1 year of experience in coaching dance, preferably for a University club sport program.

Experience coaching dance and supporting the skill development of individuals and teams.

Experience with and knowledge of instruction and choreography.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with college student dance teams.

Experience with dance competition, especially NDA Nationals experience, choreography for dance competition, and/or have danced competitively.

Experience in choreography for a range of styles with emphasis on hip-hop, jazz and pom.

Physical Demands

Must be present at all practices and game day performances, many of which occur on weekends or evenings. Attend Annual NDA Competition in Daytona Beach, FL (5 day travel). Attend Annual NDA Camp in Boston, MA.

Coach should be able to perform dance instruction/choreography. Should be in good physical condition with ability to perform as instructor.

Special Instructions to Applicants

This position is non-benefits eligible. This position is from August through May, working 10 hours per week. The rate is $19.00 per hour.
